Parea in the Paddock - Reduction Print

from $139.00

Parea (Chatham Island pigeon, Hemiphaga chathamensis) are the larger cousin of the better-known Kererū - that live on the isolated island of Rēkohu | Wharekauri | Chatham Islands. This print is inspired by an encounter we had with these special birds when we were lucky enough to visit the Chathams earlier this year. These birds - unlike their mainland cousins - are often found foraging on the ground in sheep paddocks, which is what is depicted in this colourful print - with the playful title ‘Parea in the Paddock’. This print captures the blue-ish tinge in the plumage, and the red eyes and beak, with the beak having a striking yellow-orange tip.

This is a 7-layer reduction print, using oil-based inks printed on to 230 gsm Fabriano paper. Each layer of ink is individually hand-printed and left to dry before the next layer is added. This is a very limited edition series (13 prints). The print itself is 8 × 8 inches, printed on 9 × 9 inch paper. You can optionally purchase the print with a square wooden frame.

Capture a special piece of Rēkohu with this colourful print that celebrates these big, beautiful birds.
